What's In Your Desk Drawer? Day 7

(This post is part of a series about the weird stuff teachers have in their desk drawers. You can read more about this project here, and I hope you'll share the stories of the weird stuff you have in your desk too!)

What...is...that...?

Is that a bag of plastic meat?

Yes. Yes, it is.

And...why do you have a bag of plastic meat in your desk drawer?

Oh, no reason, really.

The relatively-short version of the story:

I come from a big family. A really, really big family. As in dozens of first cousins big family. It's rare that we all get together anymore, because we are now far-flung across the country. But when groups of us get together, it's always a good time. Usually these days that means a wedding for one of my cousins, or Grandma's 90th birthday party, or something like that. But there is always a big family Christmas party, and everyone who can come shows up.

It's been a couple years since we've been able to make it to the family Christmas party, but those events are some of my favorite memories. We are a big enough group that we can't meet in someone's home; we usually rent a church and take over. We have a big meal and reminisce and have the little ones (great-grandkids now!) open gifts. We usually share stories and have talent shows and put on skits and play silly games and we almost always have a war with balled-up wrapping paper. We read the Story from Luke 2 and sing Christmas carols and just enjoy being together as a family.

It's a good time.

And the connection? Why is this weird bag of plastic meat in my desk drawer?

It was a prize from a crazy game at a family Christmas party, of course!

C'mon...don't you have weird stuff in your desk for no apparent reason?

  1. Kathleen says I have everthing in my desk drawers, but I don't have a bag of plastic meat. You win.
